Paula Tape lands in Wellington at Meow Nui on Saturday 28 February, bringing her unmistakable blend of rhythm-forward house, Balearic warmth and cosmic disco to the dancefloor.
Originally from Santiago, Chile, Paula Tape (Paula Soto Carmona) is a multifaceted DJ, producer and fashion designer whose musical foundations were forged behind the drum kit in metal and indie-electro bands. That percussive instinct still drives her sound today, where classic house meets sun-kissed Balearic moods and left-of-centre club cuts. As the founder of Tempo Dischi, she’s built a platform dedicated to adventurous dance music—championing disco, afro and cosmic influences while spotlighting emerging artists from across the globe.
Joining Paula Tape on the night is Christopher Tubbs, Aotearoa DJ royalty and a recent collaborator with Paula: Christopher’s and Eden Burns’s ‘Drums Are Dangerous’ (feat Paula Tape) came out last year on Germany’s Public Possession, to widespread acclaim.
Christopher Tubbs is a DJ, producer, and broadcaster. More than that he is a true godfather of the New Zealand dance music scene. His productions as Tubbs, Atlantic Conveyor and collaborations with Eden Burns for Public Possession have resulted in strong support from luminaries as varied as Gilles Peterson, Mark Ronson, Zane Lowe, Optimo and Axel Boman.
As a globetrotting DJ, Christopher Tubbs has played at almost every notable club internationally, from Privilege in Ibiza to Fabric in London. Christopher also co-owned the cult vinyl-only record label Untracked (heavily supported by the likes of Mark Ronson and Gilles Peterson), giving debut releases to underground heroes Red Rack’em and NZ’s very own Frank Booker.
